City advises of roadworks along Voortrekker Road in Salt River

03 September 2025

The City’s Road Infrastructure Management Department will be resurfacing a portion of Voortrekker Road in the Salt River area. The work will start today, 3 September 2025 until Thursday,16 October 2025, if all goes as planned.

‘The section of Voortrekker Road to be resurfaced is between Riverene Road, at the Salt River Bridge, and Beach Road. Night work is required for this resurfacing project so that we can minimise the disruptions to traffic flow and avoid adding to traffic congestion in the area. Work will therefore take place from today, 3 September 2025, from 19:00 and 05:30 from Sunday to Friday. Residents and business owners can expect some noise during this time. We ask for residents and business owners’ patience and support as the project team try to get the construction work done as soon as possible,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.

This project starts on Salt River Bridge opposite the Salt River Station, and ends at the Beach Road intersection with Voortrekker Road. Both the eastbound- and westbound-carriageway will be resurfaced.
To facilitate the work, partial lane closures may be in place at night. Motorists are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and use alternative routes where possible to minimise delays.
This forms part of regular maintenance to prolong the longevity of the city’s road network and to keep Capetonians moving.

The City appreciates the patience and cooperation of all road users while improvements to the road network are under way.
